This Week #5

Sometime back.

Hello again.

Lots of things happening now that parts of the world are limping back from the after effects of the Chinese virus. Let’s take a look.

Technology

• Tata Group is planning to launch a “Super App” or as they put it “a lot of apps in an app” much like Amazon and Jio. They plan to launch the service in Dec or early Jan 2021. For sure a big market but can they make inroads in an already competitive market, only time will tell.

• Watching a lot of Netflix after Covid forced you indoors, I hear. What if I told you that you could download the whole of Netflix in 1 sec? Well that would take a 178 TERABITS per sec connection, which apparently was demonstrated by the folks at UCL labs. Flash would be jealous of that speed, I’m sure.

• Apparently the TikTok saga in US of A is not yet over. Last week a group of WeChat users in US sued the Trump govt for violation of free speech (where have we seen that before eh). There is whole lot happening here including Trump backing Oracle to take over TikTok about which you can read here.

• Apple was at it again with the blocking of Wordpress’ updates over refusal to add in-app purchases, which now stands withdrawn. All this is happening while the Fortnite issue still rages on. Apple minting its cash cow, that’s all folks.
  Side Note : Invest in Apple because the iFans are not going anywhere anytime soon.
